Hey everyone,

Newbie here to MR and reef keeping in general. I've been interested in a tank for a long time and have finally decided to "take the plunge".

What I have: 75 gallon tank (generously gifted by Vinnie in Jersey).

What I need: everything else!!

Like everyone, I'm on a budget................ so let me know what you've got and/or are wanting to get rid of.

Also any (good) advice from all of you masters will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul, welcome to MR.
Since you're asking for advice from all us masters (there is only one here  ) I figured I have to be the one to reply :)

Spend your money wisely. Buy the best piece of equipment your budget will allow....the first time around. Lots of folks buy cheap equipment initially, only to discard it and buy better the next time. This is a costly way to setup your system.

There are a lot of folks breaking down their systems. Read the 'For Sale' threads and see what equipment suits your needs. If you can't find what you're looking for in the 'used' column, check out the MR vendors. We (Saltwater Critters), and the rest of the vendors on MR offer many good deals to members.

Best of luck with your new 75g. It's a ton of fun and very rewarding. Also, take your time. Don't rush.

I've been getting some pager messages from some of you guys but I can't reply to them b/c I have fewer than 10 posts. I'll make a few more posts to get rid of that problem but in the mean time, if you've sent me a pager message, not only can I not respond but I'm not sure how to retrieve the message after it goes away.

Please private message with repeat info.....

Thanks for the help. So far MR seems like a great group!

as russ suggested look in the f\s forum. one thing i always suggest to people is to think where you want the tank to be in a year from now, corals fish ect, if not going the sps route lighting can be less ect, i always tell people to read through the tank forum and see what people are doing and using. dont buy just to buy and ask peoples opinions on equiptment, { not the one selling it } reading is knowledge knowledge is money in the bank
