i would assume you would need some sort of aqua lifter to get it started? or a big syphon tube.. lol it would suck if it lost its syphon for some reason and like a surge tank here comes the water and over the top of your tank to the floor.. lol ..oops

still pretty cool tho!

the guy who i read did it with pvc said he just submerged the tubes in the tank to fill it with water and put the caps on it underwater lifted it out flipped it over and it hasnt changed since....and you wont lose suction in it ever as long as the water level in both tanks stay above the edge of the tube(kind of like when you lift a bucket out of the water upside down without breaking the surface)....the flow system was even built around it, he had the return in one tank and the drain in the other so it flowed into one tank through the tube and down the drain(it did this because the tube would make the tanks equalize the water levels)....god i wish i could find that article now
