I have a 75 gal Oceanic main tank with a DIY 20gal lng sump/fuge. Its got a Mag 7 return pump, 2 Koralia 3s and a Seaclone 100 HOB skimmer. My lighting is 260 PC which I plan on upgrading along with the skimmer as soon I have the cash to do so.Its been up and running for about 9 mnths now and Ive had my ups and downs. I lost my first Harlequin shrimp when I moved some rocks around to get a coral beauty out of the tank.I lost 2 diamond gobies because I have no top on the tank. And I finally got the Flame Angel I always wanted and he ate 2 acan frags on me:irked: Other than that Its been going allright. I do 15 gal water changes every week and I dose baked baking soda mixed with RO water evry other day. I was using Oceanic salt from the start but just switched to Red Sea coral pro. I just want to see if I notice any difference in growth and water params. I tested tonight and my results are pH 7.8,Alk 9 dkh, calc 440, trites and ammonia 0, phos 0,SG 1.026 and my trates are 20. I havent been able to get my trates down below 20. Idk why. I feed a homemade mix of shrimp, clams, scallops, flounder and freeze dried phytoplakton. I only feed twice a week max.My current stocklist is 2 sebae clowns, 1 tomato clown,1 flame angel, 2 sexy shrimp, 1 harlequin shrimp, 4 head frogspawn, 5 frags of different zoas, 1 frag of green palys, gsp, anthelia, sun coral, various shrooms, 1 head blasto frag and an H. mag anemone(which isnt doin so hot under my POS PC's) Thats about it for now. Lmk what you think

Pat just saw your thread would love to see some updated photos! Have you gotten a light update as of yet? Do you have to buy chocolate chip starfish for the harlequin shrimp? I always wanted one but heard that the starfish is all they eat.

How are the nitrates? When my nitrates were high I added chaeto in my makeshift sump/refugium area and the nitrates were non existant might want to try that. Also if you have xenia in your tank it absorbs all the bad stuff in the water, it actually thrives off of that and filters your water. I have some that are growing beautifully on the back wall of my tank.

Long awaited update

I havent updated this thread in forever. I finally got a way to post some pix so I figured it was time. The tanks been thru some major changes. I upgraded the skimmer to a Nautilus TE which I had to get rid of the fuge in the sump to make room for it so I set up a 30 gal display fuge. I also added a phosban 150 reactor with plain ole phosban in it. Ive lost several fish due to my own mistakes and others but I wont go into that. My current fish are a diadema psudeochrmis which is a real meanie and a diamond goby. Im thinkin of a yellow tang and a semi-agressive wrasse like a sixline or something. I still have my cleaner, sexy and harliquin shrimps. I also have 3 pepermints in there. I have mostly lps, zoas, palys, and some shrooms. Ok enough talk here are the pics. Let me know what you guys think

Well Im gonna update this again, even know I havent had ANY feedback on this thread since last year! Im planning on moving outta NY by the spring time. I love it here but my job has slowed down and I just cant stand being broke any more! Ive been looking for more work but Im not having any luck. Ive been slowly selling off my corals to get ready and break the tank down for the move. Last night I was thinkin about it and I really dont want to get rid of my current fish, which are 1 occ. clown, 1 yellow tang, 1 diamond goby and 1 blue/green chromis. Now I know they are easily replaced fish. but everyone is healthy and getting along so Id like to keep them. I also have my Anemone, which Ive had for over a year now. So my plan is to downsize into a 40B and hook it straight into my sump and display fuge! Im gonna use 3-4 big rocks outta the 75 and put my fish, nem, 2 pep shrimp, 1 sexy shrimp, and my Harlequin shrimp in the 40. I will then cook all the rest of my rock and use that to cycle the 75 when I get to Florida. I figured it would be easier to break down and move the contents of a 40b, tan leave my whole setup and try to move that! I only have a few choice corals left( 11 head duncan, 3 head duncan, some zoas on one of the large rocks Im gonna use in the 40, gsp, and a nice lobo. I figured Id try to keep them as well. Lmk what you think of my plans. Any suggestions would be awesome!! Ive never moved with a reef tank before, I want to make sure I do it right.
