Tobin that's not a red planet but it's a hyacinthus just like the red planet (from Mshur). If I move it lower in the light or get a spike in the nutrient level it will turn green all over the base.
Natural sunlight didn't play a role in the algae bloom since it was on all the rocks, even rocks that didn't get sunlight. My tanks have always had natural sunlight and hair algae was never an issue. The algae bloom really took off after I changed salts from coralife to IO (the store didn't have coralife that day). Since changing back to coralife the algae has subsided.
