Where do your coral and fish come from and how much are you paying for everything. Just wondering what our european counterparts are paying for this hobby.

And Welcome to MR

I think that's an interesting question, to see how this hobby (and its costs) could be different from place to place.

I take all here in Italy, i think is "dangerous" buy corals too far, for shipping times and temperature. Is true that they come from far away from Italy, but that's my fear. I'm thinking to buy some zohantus (like dragon eye etc etc) from USA, 'cuase here in Italy i've never seen zohantus so colored like yours. The corals here in Italy comes from Bali, Hawaii, Red Sea..i think thay are the same places than yours, are they?

Some examples of costs..i don't know..a coral "L" size costs from 100 to 150 euro..(10-12 cm)..it depends from "what" coral it is of course..if you want an example of a coral that's in my tank, ask me..there's no problem..
My euphillya glabrescens (another example)can cost 80-90 euro..my paraancora (under the orange montipora foliosa) can cost 60 - 70

Fishes: my veliferum costs 35 euro, tha japonicus 40?..1 chromis cost 8 euro..clownfish 15 euro..

These are some examples, if you have any question i'm here :)

I will post some photographies in the "photography" section :)

wow very nice. healthy looking tank 4months only?

Yes, but i came from another smaller tank. It was 90cm, this is 120cm..other measures was the same, here it is..90% of the animals are the same..as you can see, i'm far away from that result

I don't use blu coral. I've took only a thing from that method, here we call it "pappone", and it's (here's an hard test for my english!!:frown:)a mix of oysters, shrimps, mussels, clams, 1 tea spoon of sugar or fructose, 250 ml of RO water..put it all in a blender, and when it's all "shake" (i don't know the right english word :( ), put that in the freezer (in ice pouches). I give it one time a week, before i put some amino acids (reef star), 1/2 before the "pappone". The "real" blucoral method also it foresees a growth ormone, but i don't like this thing, so i don't use it. Blu coral use also a very performant skimmer and a lot of light. It's a polluting method, the "pappone" is "heavy"..so is important to have a performant skimmer, but with this method the growth is very very high..the corals thickness is veryu very high.
I hope that my answer has been satisfactory. I'm sorry but i try to make me understand from you, unfortunately my english is not so good, and it's not easy to use technical words. I hope that i will learn them with your help

thanks perry that did help out very much. I will try the reef star. I use that food mixture already. Or as in Italy papone. What levels do you keep in your tank. Ph, magnesium, calcium, alkalinity?

In my last "pappone" i've put nori algae and sardinias too. Some people, here, use to put nori and sardinians in a sock in the sump. It seems that work good, put it's very polluting

I have Ca 420 (i think that higher is not necessary), 8,5 Kh, Mg 1250, ph 7,8 /8.

For corals i use H&S Coralfood, Slaifert coarlfood, Kent x
zoomax and chromamax, cyclop-eeze, "home made" phytoplancton.

I use oligoelements (one different every day)

thanks perry very informative. I'm looking to go with the Blu coral method just without the growth hormone. I will be setting up a new tank. It's going to have a oral volume of about 100g. I will be postings thread with the whole build process.

I wait the thread ;)
If you have some time to spend on traslation, here's the "original" blu coral method. Its origin was here in Italy. If you don't understand something in Italian, ask me with no problems
