Just finshed final tweeks on my new tank, there is no livestock yet, but its all of the water, rock and sand have been setup for a week now and it all came from my established tank, so I didnt expect a large cycle, and after tsting today, my ammonia, nitrite, nitrate 0, ph 8.2 and calcium 420. SG 1.024

The lighting is a 250 watt de HQI MH fixture, with 2 65 watt PC actinics. Aqua c remora pro skimmer, CPR overflow box. I am using one Koralia 4 Im using a sump with a heater, and rio 1700 pump with closed loop SQWD wave maker return, to keep the flow a little eratic

Bearing in mind I used all rock that was in established tank for many years and all the parameters are good, how long would you suggest before introducing first corals?

Hey J, you said all your parameters are 0 now. Is this the 1st. test you've run since you set it up? Or do you have an earlier reading to compare with? Did you use all new water, and sand? I take it the lr was kept in a tank with heater, and pump.

The LR actually came from my 125 that is in a temporary livestock removal due to some parastites ( Fish have been in QT for about 20 days and tank has been left empty, im curious if using this rock from a tank w/ parasites was smart) but all sand (except for a few cups of my other tanks sand) and water are new. So im probably gonna go thru a full cycle I assume.

I tested my water for the first time today, there has been rock, water and sand in it since last friday (so 10 days) and I added birospira on weds to speed up cycle time

Thanks Jon, I was thinking waiting the usual 4 weeks. Thats cool, so Im gonna get maybe a small percula black pair soon and being their QT process, So when my tanks ready I dont have to wait another month to introduce these guys, after the pain in the A$# it was with my other tank for being impatient

I was tring to PM you... you box is full So... I'll just put it here.

I don't think I'm going to use all of my rock in my new tank. So you can have some of the left overs... I have a really nice Tanga Plat that I know I will not be using on my next tank... I send you pix

Yea im trying to not use my MH till I have some corals that need them assuming there will be some algae on its way. Im hooking up a Phos reactor, and contemplating put a net bag with chaeto and light in sump to keep nutrients minimal.

Thanks guys

Nice looking aquascape. I would add corals after the algae bloom, its the fish that I would hold off for a while.
Kinda of what I what I had typed, and have no idea what happened to it.:D

J, I wanted to say first off I Love your Corner tank!!!! The rock work is fine! I wouldn't over crowded..JMO

Now for the bad news, since you used the rock & some of the sand from the 125 you will have to continue to wait to add any fish! Just like the 125. It is recommended that you leave the tank void of fish for 8 weeks, I'd go longer just to be sure to starve those darn parasite. I waited the 8 wks. with my fowlr's fish in QT, didn't add any new fish but the original fish out of the QT. Kept up with water changes, fed them all the proper foods twice a day soaked in selcon & garlic extreme, and they got the darn ich again. This is why I say try to wait even longer then the 8wks. But there is nothing stopping you from adding corals, and such in the mean time once your cycle is done. Which you will know when it is done by checking your parameters, and observing when the # go up, and then back down.

In the mean time do not forget to feed the two tanks a couple of times a week.:D

Thanks for comments about aquascaping, I keep changing it around, but im tryting to compliment the shape of the corner tank and leave like a "court yard" in the middle for a cpl. of badass clams! as for rocks im taking them off the rocks a bit and them ascending more like steps to provide more steps for corals. I want alot of small colorful corals rather then big ones.

Do you guys think once the paramaters are ok (and of course flow and light) the water will be stable enough for sps in a fairly small tank (probably 42 total gallons)?

Hey guys, I just checked the water parameters last night and all ammonia and nitrite are 0. I am lead to believe believe by adding 50 or so lbs. of rock from my established tank along with a some new sand that I seeded from established tank I avoided a cycle. Tommorow it will be set up for two weeks and all parameters are good. Would you say it is time for some zoo's or a small fish, or keep waiting even though it appears no cycle has occured?
