You say it's a 'brand new reef tank'? How long have you had it set up? How many of those corals and fish did you add at once? A ray in a tank without much sandbed is not going to be a happy ray It's going to be forced to swim over rocks and coral. It will likely get scraped, cut, and injured. I'm sorry, but your reef is not the appropriate home for that fish.
I'm with masterswimmer on that! that ray needs a lot more sand and a lot less rock, I had a baby ray I hooked in the gulf a few years back all sand no rock it was only about 4" round... fun to have but not in your main tank...you might want to rethink having it.
Also how old is the tank? that's a lot of bio if it's fairly new.
Also make sure that there aren't any corals within reach of that tube anemone and please make sure that ray goes to a better tank. Like Russ said there isn't much sandbed for him to burrow.
tank been up for 2 years. sand bed 5in stingray is fine alot of room to go around does not go near coarls or rocks anemone is not bleach need abetter camera
the tanks looks sweet bro. (i went and saw it in person tonite) Jay you really have come a long way. You are finally doing things the way the should be done.
p.s. that ray has plenty of swimming space for its size. It is only about 4" wide and has a huge 220 sand bed that is completely open to swim freely in.
Also the corals are full of color, Jay you really need to buff up them camera skills.
Nice set up and I agree with others here and that cortez ray should not be in there and if you do not remove that piece of net, he is going to have problems. I have a dedicated stingray tank(36X36X12) because I also like them and they need a good sand bed and no rocks. Also the net you need to use for them needs to be of a larger hole diameter, like the ones you go fishing with. He turned on you and the stinger got caught in the net, that happen to me already with a blue dot stingray. It was a pain in the azz to get the piece of net off...
