Jhale unintentionally gave me the idea of getting an Orange Spotted Filefish which I would feed SPS colonies bought here on MR :lol2: That's what I think of SPS :worm:

Male Pylei Wrasse Transition

Hard to believe this is the same fish Proves that the males of some species of Fairy Wrasses need the presence of females to obtain/maintain their "show" colors.

6/18/07 - when I first obtained it

• slim
• long pectoral fins
• yellow undertone
• blue/purple margin on tail, dorsal and anal fins
• darkened face

11/27/07 - no female present for over 5 months

• pectoral fins shortened
• pink undertone
• anal fin lacks blue pigment
• dorsal fin lacking blue pigment
• tail fin turning yellow; a female characteristic :flirt:
• obvious weight gain
• dorsal fin showing effects of inter-species aggression

1/28/08 - 2 months with female present

• pectoral fins regaining original length
• blue margin returned to tail and dorsal fin
• face darkened to original coloration
• electric green highlights appearing? :scratch:

I can't ever get a good shot of the two of mine together. They're too damn fast.

My male is looking better too! My male is getting electric blue edges around the anal fin and the pectoral fins that it lacked before. Also, I think the lines around his face are getting more vivid and lengthening. He's got to look good for his woman! :flirt:
