Yes I really thought alot on how I was going to do this built, and I can't wait to get it up and running, lol.. my girl loves the tank and I think she wants it up more than I do ..She has already picked out the fish she wants for it :goldfish2.

I bet she can't wait. Tell your lady I'm with her on this one. I can't wait to see this baby running.

Enjoy your vacation! Have tons of fun, and don't spend to much time thinking about the tank. Now if you want to bring back some live stock from Hawaii I can lend you a tank to keep them in until you get your's running.

Again, Have Fun In Hawaii!!

I hoping the doors once put on will help lower the noise, but we'll see when I get back and have the system running .

to help stop the noise further I've seen people put 1" thick insulation or rubber on the inside of the doors. it works really well, the difference with the door open and closed was incredible.

Thanks for the idea..I'll look into doing something like that . Anyone else feel free to shot me ideas or inputs to help me improve my tank. Thanks again to everyone for their kind words .

if your ever down on canal street check out the Rubber store, I think it's at greene and canal (north side), it has a yellow store front. that store has all kinds of rubber matts and other rubber things you never knew existed but that you need  it's a great place for vinyl tubing also.

Dynamat might be a cool option for sound proofing as well.

Thats what I was looking into, maybe the spray on type as well. I'll have to see how loud it is first to see what I have to do.. You know she'll start complaining that she needs her beauty sleep..lol

the thicker the material the more low bass noise will be stopped. pumps put out the low end noises so the thicker the better. all the noise and vibrations will be stopped and or absorbed before they can make it out of the stand.
also know that sound waves are like water in that they will find any openings and go through them. I'm not sure what kind of doors you were going to make but full overlay doors will be much more effective than inset doors in blocking the sound waves. I'd make the doors overlap, put rubber gaskets around the perimeters then big thick matts on the inside of the doors to absorb the sound. that will be the best bet in getting a good nights sleep. :sleepy: :)

I put the doors up and primed them , will post pic's as soon as I take them . they overlay the openings.

I've got to agree that the first question that came to mind while reading this thread was "noise".

The project looks fantastic and I bet that your efforts will be well rewarded but I can imagine that the first complaint will be noise and than second will be brightness of lights in the room (esp. when you're trying to watch a movie with the room lights out).

I think the rubber is a good idea too. Originally I was thinking about that new hard foam insulation they are using for houses instead of fiberglass, it's pretty thin - but now I wonder if the rubber is perhaps even better.

Were you going to drill the tank or did you plan on having an overflow? On my tank it's the overflow that generates a lot of suction noise. I tried a durso pipe I made but it I don't keep it clean water flow gets worse over time.

It might be too late for this last comment but one of m favorite things is to actually put the fuge in a spot where it can be viewed. I am still forever fascinated by the life that goes on underneath so many show tanks people have out there. My own fuge has many organisms I just can't classify nor am I able to take close up photos of them that do any justice.

Keep up the good work.

Well iI just got back from my vaction in mexico. Know I can get back to finishing up the tank. I was thinking of putting the foam stuff all along the inside where the pumps and stuff will be to help with the noise, I'll see how bad it is once I have it running and see if I need to do anything else to it . the lights are not that bad once on ..I'll post new pic's up soon

very nice......usually i see someone find a small room and make it into a in-wall tank/fish room....but u took a open space and built walls around the tank....:thrash:
maybe its not too late....but u can build a overflow on one side of the tank drill it....reef ready is the way to go...

keep us updated....with pics please...

I 2nd the notion on drilling the tank. It doesnt look like anythng is blocking you from sliding the tank out. Seriously consider drilling it before you start filling it.
