hey guyz im starting a new project on the canopy and side portions of the tank.. wanted to get people input on this...

well as some of you know i got 2 vortechs which at the moment are on the back wall of the tank.. one on the left and one on the right...

my plans are to cut the side wood to open up the sides of the tank and so i can place one vortech on each side opposite sides of each other...

my questions

what would be the best way to cut the sides of the canopy without damaging the whole thing.

and how far away from the front glass and back glass should the pumps be placed for optimal flow... at the moment i have them pulsing.

i think this will look really nice as well considering that the bookshelf next to the canopy will still be enclosed.

thanks in advance guys...

Hey Tony,

I would roto-zip it. trace your templete on the sides, use put the roto-zip on the lowest rpm's [about 2000 rpm ]. the roto-zip has a adjustable depth coller, just make the depth a hair line over the depth you need, go slow and you should be good.

Tony what is the EXP setting on your camera. The photos come out very dark. Try -.03 You also might want to remove those sprinkler plugs. Looks very unnatural. It will take a long time for a coral to encrust over that plug, and once it does it will look retarded:) Otherwise things are looking good. I see some nice growth.

This past month these are New Additions for my tank and new things i have done

Upgraded the 2 tunzes to 2 vortechs

cut out boxes in the wood so i can see the tank from 3 sides

Got phosphates down to .01 with blue life drops  and running phosar

Added

- hawain male blonde naso tang 4"
- Kole Tang 3"
- Rainbow monti
- sunset monti
- 3 diff. types of milles (nick know the names)
- green/brown birdnest
- green polyp birdnest
- ORA Blue Tort

Next on the list alot of really nice sps  (waiting it out sucks)

pics will come when they are adjusted to the tank

What i plan on doing next is removing the overflow box and doing a direct line to the sump with the elbows inside the tank.. there will be 2 strainers to get a better surface skim ;)

Tony, I don't like elbows and strainers inside the tank. It's too easy for algae to grow over the strainers and block the water. If it happens when your gone then you get a flood. if you do it, use the thick gutter guard instead of the strainers, it has wider openings, won't get blocked and will keep the fish and inverts out.
