This is one of my two colonies - did not have much luck in the beginning so I bought a second one thinking that the first was on its way out. Both corals ended up surviving and have now started growing like crazy.
Red Plant II (December 2014 - June 2015)
Pictures were taken in December, February and June.
It has been over a year and I would like to say that things have been going great and that my corals have grown out of my tank, but unfortunately that is not the case. Somehow along the way I let me Alk shoot up from 7 to 14. I am not sure how this happened but at the end of the day I got lazy with testing and let things spiral out of control. I first noticed something was wrong when my purple stylo's white growth tips disappeared. Then my forest fire digi died and my acros lost their growth tips. When I realized what the problem was I performed water changes and have been spending hours upon hours since January trying to get the tank back in shape. Acros that I thought were unaffected would suddenly RTN or STN months after I already fixed my water chemistry. Finally this past June corals started sprouting growth tips and coloring back up. I am lucky that I didn't lose more SPS than I did. Still have a few colonies that are recovering, but I am confident that they will make a comeback soon!
The list of deaths are as follows:
Forest Fire Digi
All four of my birdsnest colonys
Pink Stylo
Ice Fire Echinata
ORA Bellina
Tyree Red Dragon
My enormous colony of Hawkins Echinata : (
In the end I really feel I lucked out and needless to say I am going to stick to my strict testing regiment. Special thanks to my buddy Dan, rideit6576 on MR, who took care of my corals while I was away for 3 weeks on my honeymoon in the midst of this disaster. I owe much of my knowledge, success and coral collection to him.
