I don't think there is much you can do to the floor... You will need to know about the actual construction of the building, to have an idea of what could be done

well the best/safest way, is to have an engineer look at the plans/building to determine what should be done...In my own home I doubled up the floor joists (from the ceiling below) and I may add adjustable lally columns for add'l support
