Finally after almost 5 years of hiatus, I took the plunge and I purchased a 72*30*27 tank at Aquarium Village. The tank was custom made by DSA and it's currently sitting in my garage. I will have the stand and canopy custom made. I am still debating if I should drill thru my floor and have a fish room in the basement or just put a sump under the stand. Also I am pretty sure I will make a LED retrofit to reduce energy consumption and heat transfer to the tank. I am pretty much open to suggestions for all of the equipment. It will be a full blown reef but I still don't know if I want to go back to SPS's mixed with LPS's and softies or don't put any SPS's in the tank. Please help me picking the right equipment since I've been away from this hobby for so long. Thanks.

Welcome back to the hobby! If i had the option to go thru the floor and have a fish room, there would be no question i would do it. It gives you so much freedom and tons of options for sumps, equip, and extra tanks for fuge, hospital and qt tanks. Good luck with it

If your not sure you want to drill holes in the floor, an idea would be open the wall drill threw the plate then if you take the tank down you just have to patch the wall. Just a thought.

I take it your basement did not flood with "Sandy", otherwise you wouldn't even think of putting a fish room in the basement.
I would do as NewFi suggested, and go through the wall. Much easier to patch then a floor if the time to move should come up.:usa1:

This time is a boy Dylan Matthew. I also like the idea of putting a fish room in my basement but just thinking about the all of the work to get it done it's making me sick. If I can find someone that can do it I will consider going that route.
I also need help with selecting the equipment. My priority is to keep my energy bill low and to keep the noise to a minimum. Any suggestions?

Custom King makes sumps. He's a vendor here.
I am undecided on the skimmer for my new tank. Are the Bubble King skimmers worth the extra money? I am looking for a very silent/very efficient skimmer. Also for the return pump I am looking at a Red Dragon for the same reasons. Are they any other equipment that compares to the two listed?
