My colony doesn't seem to have much orange polyps along it's edges. It's mostly a bright deep purple base with bright green polyps. Do you think this is the real Rainbow (it was sold to me as one by a reputable fragger)? Do I need to give it more light? It's currently at the bottom of my tank, although it does get direct light from two halides.

There's alot of wild lookalikes that are being passed around.
Fwiw, I keep mine in med light, high flow. 8" down, 9" off center of 150 DE 50K MH (10" above water surface) with 65w actinic PC right above it. If you give me a day, I'll toss you some PAR readings I have to go to Oakland and pick up my meter today :lol: Oh yah, I find 20K is best for it, but my 50K seems to do the job as well.

Maybe 10 polyps on the Superman...about 35 on the rainbow.
They're both still up high...I think I'll put them in the sand and see what happens. Not much else to do.

My rainbow monti didn't start developing orange until I had it for awhile. Now it has an orange base all the way around. The whole top is green. It was originally mounted on a bottle cap and it now has completely encrusted it. That took awhile.
I also have a Pokerstar monti and it looks nothing like the rainbow IMHO. It is much oranger (if that is a wurd). I can't wait for my pokerstar to grow some more because I think it is going to develop into my favorite encrusting monti. My superman danae is currently my favorite.

chip, i would never purposefully insult you. any insults hurled were done during sleep-walk events.
My rainbow grows very fast. I only see a hint of orange on the edges. But seeing as the base is fairly dark purple/blue in color, i think it probably needs more light.
