When you say "it looks like a refugium", do you mean that you're growing a ton of macroalgae? Or is your problem diatoms...or hair algae? Also. who's your LFS? McReef

I have seen sponges that are white like that. If it is growing off your live rock, there is a great chance it is something good. When stuff I cannot necessarily identify starts growing off my live rock, I consider it a sign that things are thriving. Good luck! McReef
