I just dismantled my 29g tank, moving sand from this to new refugium.
I have half bucket of extra Live Sand.
I will trade it for a SPS frag.
It is stored with a heater and pump.

Please don't make me throw it out.

Bad Sand....

Used Sand=Crashed Tank....

Take it from me dude, I was like you, I needed sand so I used someone else' sand and had about a 3" sand bed when when my tank crashed one day for no reason luckily the fish remained ok, but my inverts and corals all perished and i had to do a complete tank makeover,(new sand, water etc..) which if anyone remembers me (which i am sure they do lol) knows my tank is slowly, i am talking slowly recovering still to this day about 2-3 months later....but i am not jinxing it just yet =0

It was a hydrogen sulfide(sulfate) reaction in the sand....(black or gray spots that show up deep in the sand, youll know it by the rotten egg smell... but i am sure if you wanna know more about it, there are members on here who have some crazy knowledge on that subject....

Do yourself a favor and get new sand, and a good ro/di setup, as well as a bigger skimmer LoL ....Words i am living by.....

hmmm, i have used sand from other tanks everytime i switch tanks, and i have never had a problem. sure if you have a dsb and transfer it, you will, but if someone only needs a small amount to seed their sand, or to do a thin layer it should not pose a problem. maybe a few newbies will need a couple of cups for seeding their tanks and you will be able to get rid of it :D

im :) to see we all no what we are doing here....

yea used sand in abundance is bad.. ur disturbing the sand and then reusing it.... the person can wash it out alot but i personally still wouldnt take that risk...

as jennie said like a cup of the top layer of the sand would be good to seed a persons tank but that would be as far as i would go...
