The response was overwhelming and I spoke to the first person who contacted me and they are picking it up on Saturday.
Don't hold your breath. There is a a long way between someone telling you thay are coming and the actual arrival. But maybe in this case since it is free there is a good chance they will show up.

Does anyone have any of the tiny starfish in their tanks? The never have them in pet stores I am always being told they can be found only in live rock.

I was at a pet store yesterday and they told me I should just ask on one of these forums bc if reefers have them they might have tons of them that they get rid of? Is this true? If it is I would love to have some!

Im in Merrick Long Island hopefully someone close to me!

marcella, their considered pest if your referring to the "nastrea" white hitchhiker starfish. they were noted to eat zoas. atleast that's why i killed mine.

I think those are called asterina starfish, you are right those ar the bad ones they eat zoa's especially. I've removed some of them off of newly purchased coral that I dipped before putting into my tank.

I was looking for the tiny skinny ones? They look like very tiny brittle stars? I had one in my tank when I was cycling last year and it didnt make it. I would like to add some back into the tank but I just cant find them anywhere.

Why do you want them? Do you have a Harlequin that you are trying to get food for? If yes, then just buy chocolate starfish or the likes, and feed that to the Harley.

No harlequin. I just find them interesting to watch and they are good detrivores arent they? Other types of starfish arent suitable for my tank and would like to have a few of these mini brittle-like starfish, if anyone has some to give away it would be appreciated. :)

Marcellina, all you need is one. Your tank will be over runned by them in little time.:( I had to get a Harlequin to eat them cause they covered my glass.;)
Becarefull what you wish for.

i believe what marcellina was referring to is the mini brittle star...they don't hang on to the glass...they always hide in rocks or in chaeto.
i have tons of the mini brittle stars in my fuge, mostly in the chaeto. they are scavengers. harleys don't eat them....at least not mine....they are in the same tank and i've never seen any harleys eating any mini brittle stars.....asterinas...that's another story....i no longer have any asterinas in my 55 gal. fuge that used to have hundreds if not thousands of them.
marcellina, if you ever come to flushing, queens, i can bring you some in a ball of chaeto.:wink1:

OK tomtoothdoc, and rick, you both got me on that one!!!LOL

Problem happened that I responded to her first post where she did not go into detail on the description of the starfish that she is looking for. Her detailed description came later while I was typing, and I totally missed it.:tongue1:
Yes, I know the difference between both..... Got my Harley to get rid of the asterinas in my tank, not my brittles.:p

BTW Rick, Marcellina is a she, not a he..;)
