So im setting up a new system that I will be doing schedule 80 and vinyl tubing for the plumbing. At the same time im going to be upgrading the sump on my main tank which will require me to put in new plumbing for that system as well. I'm thinking that while I'm at it I may want to just upgrade to schedule 80 but have no idea what size hole exactly is drilled in the tank, I was hoping someone could help me figure that out. The tank is a 4ft 120 RR tank. Right now there are 2 regular 1 inch bulkheads in there but if i remember correctly they were very loose in there. Any one know if im able to do 1" schedule 80s, or do I need to go down to 3/4" schedule 80?

isnt sch 80 smaller then sch 40 ?? I recall when I was setting up my 150RR I was able to tie sch 40 directly to the bulkhead just looked at mine and they are screwed with a fitting then to sch 40

Yes I know the pipes have the same OD, and fitting have same IS. But I know bulkhead are different sizes. I just ordered 2 schedule 80 bulkhead for my new set up but needed to order 3/4 inch bulkhead because I purchased a 1.75" drill bit when I originally was going to use regular 1 inch bulkheads

That would work but might be play in the 3/4, safest bet is to have bulkheads on hand first. I'm saying for example 2 sch 80 3/4" made by different companies will require holes of different sizes.

good point. thats why I was hoping someone knew the standard hole size drilled in a 120RR tank so I can match that up with what BRS sells.

I believe BRS's sch 80 in 3/4 is recommended for 1.75" hole, they have a list of drill sizes. I just ordered some from them like a month ago, and were true to size they recommend.

Ok. But that brings me back to my original queation. What's the hole size predrilled in a standard 120g r2r tank. The issue is I need to have all parts ready before I try redoing the plumbing. I don't want to disassemble it, measure the hole, the reassemble it so I can run the tank while I wait for the bulkhead I need to come in.

Is it a 1" sch 40 that's currently on the 120? If so you're sch 80 3/4 at 1.75" should be good since you stated you recalled a lot of room. It's really hard to say exactly without measuring it. We'll all be guessing or taking a chance, but if it's a sch 40 1" and you add the diameter of the ring, you should be good swapping into the sch 80. Especially since you recall play.
