how does the scrubber work? separate pump or plumbed to tank?

my camera isn't working on my fone..its a diy built from pop coral...separate pump and light(included) was specifically made to fit my sump(40breeder) but easily can be modified. simple, but works like a charm. with my grow light(25w) it grows super thick and hair algae which I scrape half off weekly. keeps my nutrients pretty low..and that's with heavy feeding. also normal spec of algae in the tank
