Once connected to tank, the filter will cycle between 6-12 weeks. This process can be sped up by one-time introduction of manufacturer bacterial supplies (sold separately). Once cycled, this filter will remove nitrates from aquarium at a rate equal to a 20 gal water change per week. This unit is sized for an aquarium sized between 20-55 gal.
