picture and dimensions ?

Hey, I added a photo in the OP. I made it myself out of a part of an old wet/dry. It's not the prettiest thing but I needed a space for a fuge under my old 75 next to my ProFlex so I made this which drains out of a 1" elbow into some 1" flexPVC. It worked really well to add some more water volume and a place to grow a nice ball of chaeto with the PAR38 LED above it.

Oh, this battery is made specifically for Ecotech equipment. It basically bypasses the mp10/40/60 controller box's normal power so it runs the pump on DC/battery instead of the AC when power goes down from the mains. This accomplishes two things. First it doesn't have to go through conversion from AC to DC so it wastes a bit less precious energy. Secondly the controller for the pump knows power is down and it kicks into a power saving mode to get as much time running on battery as possible. It's really a nice feature and well thought out by Ecotech. Running pumps, or any motor driven device for that matter, is ill advised on a APC style computer backup because the way they minic the sine curve of AC power.

Due to the impending storm I've gotten quite a few PM's asking to explain what the Ecotech Backup is and to explain good strategies for emergencies. This probably isn't the correct place for this but here goes to help out with some things I have learned along the way:

Yeah the Ecotech Battery Backup is designed to work with Ecotech products, I'm not sure how it could work with other things but with an Ecotech pump connects directly to the controller and it allows the MP60/40/10 to go into a battery backup mode where it pumps at a low level to save battery power. I think it will go 36+ hours with one MP40. It really saved my bacon with Sandy last year keeping my tank alive. People make the mistake thinking they can use a computer UPS but when plugged into a regular power source the MP40 won't know the power is out and drain even a big UPS after a few hours. When the power goes out the MP's main line goes down and the battery kicks in with direct DC power and the pump goes into power saving mode. It works really well.

During a power out emergency cold, if the heat goes off, and loss of flow are the tanks two main killers . Plan on wrapping a blanket around and over the tank too, it will do wonders to keep the temp up. Also oxygen is the an important thing, a battery operated air pump will do wonders to keep things alive and the air bubbles actually create a nice amount of water movement. The little Marina model ones run on to D batteries and go all day, it is great to have one on hand for emergencies.

If you don't have an MP40 or other type of Ecotech pump, in the future I would strongly consider it along with the battery backup. They may be expensive pumps but they are worth their weight in gold with the battery backup to get 36+ hours of water movement that automatically kicks in during a blackout. It is great to have for peace of mind when away from home or during a storm related outage etc. As I mentioned above a UPS for a computer is a terrible idea for most AC powered pumps as the sine approximations is terrible for motors. Having a standby generator is the most ideal thing but for many people this isn't possible.
