i need to bring down the ammonia level in my tank its at 8.0+ and ive been useing ammonia detox for a week and its still went up from 0.50 when i started useing it
you need to find the source of the problem...not adding chemicals to fight it...
is your tank a new setup?...a livestock deteriorating in the tank....?not enough biological filtration....tank is still cycling?...etc.
just say you dont have enough biological filtration(beneficial bacteria grows on evrything thats submerged in water)but you still need time for them to populate to remove the ammonia/nitrite..so doing 90% water changes will slow down thier population rate even more.
give u some details of your tank setup and water parameters....
its a 3 gallon pico tank its been running almost a month now the Ph is 8.2 nitrite 0 nitrate 0 ammonia 8.0+ about 2-3 ponds live rock marine bio sediment for snad bed about 1.5" 1 ORA black and white clown 1 yellow tail damsel all coral died due to ammonia i think oh an filled with nutri sea water avery time except for today i used petco sea water
looks like you are way overstocked for a 3g pico.
you filled with nutri sea water everytime?....what is your salinity at?
if you top off with seawater then your salinity is super high...
wow your right i thought being that the salinity on the container said it was perfect i assumed it would remainthe same as when i first used it at 32-34 but its now at 40+ could that be what killed the coral
I would go buy some either from a vendor or some kind of supermarket. Bringing a 3 gallon tank from 40PPT to 35PPT should only require about 4-5 cups at most.
Is there any living coral or fish left in this tank? (Though I can't imagine that there would be with a sg of 1.040)
If not, I'd suggest you drain ALL of the water and replace it with new premade water and then allow the tank to cycle completely before adding any living creature (fish or coral).
It would also be best if you did more reading about how to maintain a SW tank. You definitely need to find a source of RO water to use for topping off evaporated water, you can't use the premade water for that.
You also should not use chemicals in your tank. The mistake you made there was using a product that detoxifies ammonia and not understanding that the product itself would skew the results of an ammonia test.
What lighting do you have for this tank?
Do you have a skimmer or filter of any sort?
What are you measuring the sg with?
you are mistaken me for a newbie this is just my first nano as you all know the smaller the tank the less time it takes for these things to reach critical levels i just wanted to see if someone knew of a way to speed up the prosess for me and i have the light that comes with the tank a 9w 50/50 cf no skimmer (cant find one small enough) just a filter that came with it and im useing a hydrometer bought at petco
You need to go find the type of ammonia kit that uses the tablet form (I believe there are 2 tablets necessary for each test) of reagent to test in a tank after you use an ammonia detoxifying product.
Your current ammonia test kit is inappropriate for use after using the product that you did.
Ive been running a 3gal for the last six month. I followed the advice of most reefer's and had no fish and did not add anything until all parameters were maintained for at least two months after cycle. I would remove all inhabitants (fish and inverts if you have em) restart the whole set up. Check all rocks and under them to see what could be is causing the spike. These small systems are unforgiving and changes take place very fast. You also may want to start using chemipure after in your filter. I have upgraded to a larger clear filter with cheato, live rock, sand and lighting for it (looks just like a sub mini tank!).
