Keep my tank from getting to warm in a house, that dose not have an air conditioner, not saying I don't, but a have a room that I call my hunting room and I have my biocube 8 in there and that room dose not have air, I could leave the door open but that is not enough. What do you do in your house when it gets hot? Tell us your story. How to keep it cool or if your tank got hot:smash:, what did you lose and what are you doing about it now to keep it cool:bagfish:?

Chillers are for tanks not rooms... There's no avoiding it, you simply need to get a chiller. If you don't want to spend big bucks on a chiller look for one used or move the tank to a room that has A/C.

I know chillers are for tanks (I was wondering why my Little room was not chilling with my chiller), what I mean is at there are people on this site that maybe use other ways of keeping their tank cool. I am not trying to go around not buying a chiller I plan to get one very soon like in the next few weeks. It's always good to know how the people that don't have the money right now, keep their tank cool. Keeping the tank cool the wrong way can mean losing fish, coral and money.

depends on the size of tank, lighting ect factors in also. little tank, just move it out into a room where the ac is, if there is no air circulation you dont have much options, a fan blowing down onto the water, need more info before can give you more info

Most people use chillers, some people fans, some people air conditioning. Too many variables involved in each individuals situation to say what 'you' can specifically do. Given your current situation with the lead paint, maybe look for a new place with central air conditioning. How's is your daugther by the way?

Hope all is well.

It really depends on the tank. Having an open top will help a little. I have AC in my livingroom, but it's expensive to run when I'm not home. I use a vornado fan and have it aimed so it blows across the surface of my tank. It works and keeps the temp around 83F in summer, but it does make for a lot of evaporation and I have to do top-offs at least daily.

You can always get a strong fan with alot of HP like the vornando and have it blow air across the top of your tank or sump to try to keep temp down. You can also switch your light schedule for the summer. Instead of lights turning on during the day when its the hottest outside, have your lights turn on at night time when the temp is cooler. Also on the really really hot days, keep your MH off for a day. Your tank will be fine with out MH lights for a day, remember in nature its not always sunny outside 365 days a year. Hope this helps but best thing IMO is to run a AC, you and your tank will be happier and cooler.

If you want you can fill a plastic bottle 3/4's of the way up and freeze it and when the tank gets too hot you can put it in to cool it off however, chillers or fans and heaters working hand in hand with controllers are the best and safest way to cool a tank because there are checks and balances with it.

An AC unit is your best bet because you and your fish benifit from it.

Oh and before you ask the only reason I suggest filling the bottle with water only 3/4's is because water will expand (get bigger) when frozen.
