I have an AP24 using the cover with PC lights and I would like to add a Phosban reactor. Would this be overkill?
I am planning on ordering the Phosban 150, Maxijet 400 powerhead, phosban media, ball valve, replacement O-ring for back up, 1/2" tubing.
Any suggestions or examples of how to run it or what other pieces would be needed?

You will also need to make holes in your hood for the hoses and figure out where you are going to mount or place the phosban reactor. With your hood on you won't be able to hang it off the side or back of the tank. Once again I suggest switching your lighting methods if you want a HOB skimmer and a phosban reactor

A MaxiJet 400 is going to be too powerful. The phosban media needs to tumble very gently in the reactor to work. Too much flow and you'll turn it to dust and it will spew into your tank. A MiniJet 404 should be more than adequate.

u will also need to change the media about once a month maybe every two months. If dietrus gets trapped it can pollute the water

yeah, i got all that stuff. nitrate is <15, IO test shows phosphates are 0, but we know that isn't true, hence the purchase of a reactor.

I hear ya on the questionable 0ppm PO4 results too. The reactor really didn't help anything ?

When I had a hair algae infestation, I manually removed say 50% of it and bought 6 turbo snails and within 4 days it was cleaned up. I also added chemipure elite around the same time, so I don't know who deserves credit.

No need for the 8 - 1/2 hose clamps. The TLF reactor comes with one clamp. That's all you need. You only need to clamp the hose feeding into the reactor.

Finally, an answer!!! Lol, no offense Phoenix.

Good to know about the clamps, so I only need it on the pump/supply side and it comes with it, perfect!

I really appreciate the help. Now I can click 'Checkout' :)

None taken. I just need to go to Hair Algae Anonymous. I have a problem that I just can't kick.

Dude - I felt f-ing helpless against my outbreak too. As a matter of fact I'm waging a war against a small cyano outbreak which I think is close to being under control.

Get your nitrates down to 0 - are you running a skimmer? That helped me out too.

I had a problem with cyano as well. I increased the flow in my tank and I haven't seen it since. That is what everyone here told me to do. I am running a skimmer as well. My buddy lfsmarineguy told me that I should be doing weekly water changes of 10 to 15% a week (72g bow front) instead of 25% bi-weekly for the hair algae. I can't tell you how many stoney corals I've lost because they got smothered with hair algae. If I didn't love this hobby so much and if I wasn't using this for therapy (seen alot of s*** on my job:splitspin) I would of given up on it. F****** hair algae...I curse you to the bottom of the pits of Hades!!!:headache:

Even though alot of people swear on using Chemi-pure i seem to think after a weeks use it may add more harm than good by speeding up the algae blooms in the tank ....
