Peps I got a quick question..

How do I clean the filter sock in my sump?...

I tried rinsing it in the sink and that does not do the trick..Its like the dirt is stuck to it..... I was thinking of throwing it in the laundry but I dunno if the soap could kill lthe fish...

You do you clean yours?

I run the washing machine empty for a cycle then run my socks through. Air dry after. I rotate with 5 socks...works well for me.

what you accomplish by that is cleaning the washing machine of any soap residue.. correct?...

Do you use any soap to clean your socks?.. Bleach?..

I'mma buy two more today so I can rotate,, I had no idea these things get so clogged up so fast.. Its overflowing right now.

I run a rinse cycle just make sure the washer is clean.

I've never used bleach or soap.

I may try bleach now that I see others use it without a problem..

Here are just a few thoughts. I got them from a book and I have had no problems doing this.

Wash the socks in the washer with bleach only. I actually use a whole cup. I put the washer on the extra rinse cycle. AFter this, I make a 5 gallon bucket of tap water and overkill with dechlor. 3-4 times the recommended dose. Soak the socks in it for 24 hours, then hang/sun dry. Smell the socks. If there is any hint of chlorine, add dechlor and repeat the soak. (I have NEVER had to repeat, just what the book said) Return to service.

This sounds like a lot of work, but really isnt. And always better to be safe than sorry in this hobby. Thousands down the drain in a major crash.

Wash mine in the washer, gentle cycle, hot water, small amount of bleach. Air dry for a couple of days. I have had no problems with this method.

I wash them in the washing machine with bleach and soap. Never had a problem. I also use plain white sweat socks...cheaper and works almost as well. LFS told me to try it and it works fine.

I also use bleach to clean my Magnum micron cartridge. Instructions tell you to do so. Never had a problem here either
