For about a week now I have been a little worried about my corals. I will to save space will share that as far as reefs go my water parameters are perfect according to reef guidlines.

The reason I am concerned is I have both a torch and a frogspwan coral that have been thriving in my tank. For the past week neither of them is getting fully inflated like they are accustomed to. to further confuse me I have to monti caps that have been vibrant. One was a dark green with purple rim and the other was a flourescent morphed green. Both are fading in color and intensity.

There are also two other SPS,acro's that seem to be lightening/bleaching out. Nothing has changed in lighting filtration/skimming, additive etc.

Again the water is pristine by reef standards.

Has anyone ever experienced this happening in thier tank? Did it clear up on its own. Did you lose the livestock? What did you use as a solution or did it just clear up on it's own?

Any input or insight will be appreciated.

I can assume by your post that you havent ser up your CA. reactor yet.
I would be inclined to ask you how old your VHO bulbs are.
Do you have a leather?
Have you changed the flow in a way that you never have before?
Do you run carbon?
When was your last water change? Maybe your lacking some trace element.

Do you need another newb to come by and talk in person?

Double post....

With this new prolonged snow flurry were having I doubt that I would be willing to come by anyway. Even with 4x4 and chains I cant go anywhere with 10,000 other people stuck in front of me.

Hey Duane how be you???

Water change every week most of the time 10%, Yes I run carbon, no I did not get Calc reactor going yet, have had a few weeks from hell at work.

nope no leather, and like I said water params are killer could not be better. Whats strange is the only montis suffering are the two green caps the digitata you gave me is doing great. No new additions as of late. I really am baffled??

I have a couple of stonies not looking well also. I am wondering if this is a delayed reaction to the prolonged power outage a few weeks ago. Tho it's unlikey after this amount of time.

The LPS are really looking withdrwan. Tho I have heard some post that occasionally their LPS do this.

Hmmm, What SPS colonies are acting badly. I wonder if you are having some sort of ellopathy happening from the one colony that has the dreaded red bugs potentialy producing extra slime.

Here are two pics of a colony with and without the bugs. The first was taken on thankgiving day. It was still growing like a weed but you can sure see a color difference. That is my only Idea. It may be a hairbrain one at that. :)

Random thoughts:
How old are your lights? If you are using RO/DI system, when was the last time the resins were changed or the effluent tested? Also a thought in the way of environment, no new paint in the house or chemicals (cleaning supplies) etc used recently?

Hey now, I already asked about lights! I personally know jumpincactus and the VHOs would be the only ones in question. They are all excellent ideas for trouble shooting.

Yea lawdog the vho blues are brand new and the 14k hamiltons are also new, or about a month old.

I cannot really tell if the di resin needs changin or not I am not really up on what the color has to be to indicate a change. The rodi is approx 8 months old.

It has a tds meter and the effluent is clear. I use Rowphos and my Po4 is negligible.

Trido/duane and I were talking today and tell me what you think about this theory dawg...... My wife made this little basket I used to lower and feed my shrimps. It was a cool thought as it was a screen and I tied dental floss to it and went fishin :) This little screen cage keeps the food from getting away and floating around polluting the tank. I tied it to the hinge on my canopy door and left it in till I came home from work the next day. That way the shrimps could feast at their leisure.

Heres what I am thinking, the screen is a arts and craft screen she uses and it is made from copper. I really did not think having copper for one day would hurt anything. But in looking at clues as to what was different it would point to that silly screen I used. Duane suggested I do a couple of large water changes to see if it makes a difference. Do you really this that little tiny piece of copper could be the culprit???

Ah!!!! You put copper in the tank!?!? Thats a big no no. In Biology we were studying the adverse affects of copper from artificial reefs and why they have to remove copper before scuttling ships. Even a trace amount will kill corals. Be very weary with metals.
