I have looked around the forums and it seems that ghost shrimp can be kept in both freshwater as well as salt. Have you all found this to be true?
Or do I have to specifically buy the saltwater "white shrimp" version. I have access to TONS of ghost shrimp, but would have to work to get any signifigant quantities of "white" shrimp. I don't have any fish to feed yet seeing as how my rock is still cycling, but I am just trying to get ahead of the game. Thanks a bunch.

Are you thinking of using them as a food source for your fish?

I was considering possibly using them as a treat/food source if i can use "regular" ghost shrimp. But not as a prrimary food source or anything like that. I guess if they are going to be eaten then it doesnt really matter if they can survive in salt since they will be in the mouth of a fish fairly soon after hitting the water. I'm more curious about their compatability with salt water more than anything else.

They can survive, like black mollies can survive, you just have to acclimate them over a period of like 8 hours to go from fresh to salt water without shocking. They are brackish water dwellers normally I seem to remember.

great, thanks. It seemed like half the research I did said yes, and half said no. So I will count your opinion as the tie-breaker and give it a shot to see if they can at least make it for a while in my quarantine tank. If they die, ohh well.

The key would be slow acclimation, I've changed freshwater guppies and mollies to a full marine SG without any problems.

Let us know how it goes.
