ive never had a problem with those small star fish, some people claim they eat coral, but mine had always just scavenged

as for the nudibrach, im not sure of the species but that is definitly a zoomuncher.

I got some rock from dr. foster and smith and they bred in my tank and well, it wasnt too great for my poor zoos.

maybe you should think before getting more rock from that lfs if it is infected with those guys.

if it was the star you squished, each piece will in turn turn in to another star. i had hundreds of these stars. i bought a harliquin shrimp and he cleared all of them up in weeks now i have to buy him stars to eat. you have to have fairly good water for them. my asterina stars never chewed on my zoos. but i read if they run out of a food sorce they will adapt and eat what is avaliable.

Looks like zoa eating nudis.. A warm fresh water dip will make them fall off, but you have to carfully inspect the zoa's to make sure there are no egg sacks on them or you'll have to start all over again.

Thanks for all the advice, haven't found any more slugs and zoas have recovered well from previous munching!!! Havn't seen britttle star but hae only found two more asterinas since tweezering off others...being careful not to leave any bits in tank as don't want them reproducing.

I have a question if you bought already cured rock from a LFS due to the charmer in your family :) Then why do you think you need to cycle your tank???

If the LR came froman established sytem and you kept it wet on the way home then unless you added a lot of critters you would only experience a very small short cycle. You already had bacteria in your cured rock.. Please clarify why you feel you are going to get ammoinia spikes

Happy reefing BTW

Live rock was put in to start system, however - some may think this cruel, we waited a couple of weeks then added 2 black mollies (only after aclimatising to salt water for over 6 hours with slow drip set up) to see if ammonia would spike, went up slightly but then settled back to 0, took mollies out after a week and reversed aclimitisation process (they now live happily in tropical tank). Have had clowns in tank for 2 & half weeks now and have had zero ammonia, zero nitrite throughout. (don't know how but we must be doing sumthin right ,- beginners luck I think). :D
