I just switched tanks from a 90gallon to a 75 FOWLR. I am not a new keeper but it is a brand new tank. Anyway, I have had it set up now for about 3weeks and I of course have the Brown algae growing everywhere. My question is, how long does it take before this algae starts to go away? I have a few turbos and they help a little but still cant keep up. I have a Flagfin, Coral Beauty, Orchid Dottyback pair, Arc-eyed Hawk, and a baby Rect. Triggerfish. Lots of LR and a Berlin sump with a filter sock, and a AquaC Urchin skimmer, Tunze 6060 for circulation. I cant remember how long the brwn stuff hangs around so let me know, and any types for getting rid of it greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

i wonder could u help me out a bit,i have a 37.5 gallon juwel tank,i dont know how to post a question in the newbie forum so i just had to pm u,im cycling my tank about 3 weeks now and i think its stuck or something,i started off the cycle with house hold cleaner ammonia,(9% pure)i added 20 mls for 2 days and 5 mls for a week there after,i was testing all the time and it gradually rose of the charts, after 1 week i started to test for nitrie daily and it also rose, now im testing for nitrate and its off the chart, now my amm is 0mg/l my nitriet is 1.6mg/l and nitrate is 110 mg/lits being like this for a full week now and im a little bit worried that it wont come down now, shouldnt there be brown algae starting to grow every where by now,i would hate to have to start over so please tell me im on track,
cheers

IMO live rock is enough to cycle a tank or if you really want to jumpstart the cycle I have known of people who put a small piece of raw shrimp in there tanks.

Household ammonia 8O

Do plenty of water changes to get that ammonia out of there. IMO 20% a day for 2 weeks. Don't try to speed the cycle, don't work well that way. Your rock's die off is enough ammonia to cycle. Test your water peramiters as often as possible.

**NOTE** Dont ever use household ammonia again.

It will probably be like starting all over again, but if you want your tank right, that's what you will have to begin with.

Let me know how it comes along.
