I have a 5g reef with live rock, toadstool leathers, misc. polyps, xenia, small frogspawn, and another thing im not sure of the name of it (small purple polyps with green underneath. soft).

Since there are no fish in the tank I was wondering if I needed to feed any of these corals, or If they just need light.

Thanks,
Laura

Oh boy this brought back fond memories of all the flame wars I've been in over the years for almost this same question. :D
There are other animals in your tank besides the corals i.e. pods, worms, etc. and these do need to eat. So in my tanks I tend to feed them by dropping in extra bits of flake food or a small amount of frozen food I make with ground shrimp, squid, mussels, algae, fish roe, etc with Selco added. I also add phytoplankton. Now to your question on feeding corals, it's open to debate as to whether supplemental feeding is need for many corals. I'm of the opinion that it certainly doesn't hurt and I feel that many of my corals are benefiting from these feedings.

Take his advice. He knows!

I have a 0.5 pico that I feed very little every once in a while (about 1-2 flakes once a week). Everybody gets happy when I feed it (micro-stars, worms, pods, even the corals).

Definately feed it. I wouldnt worry so much about target feeding any of those corals, but just feed the tank in general. I use Bornemans food recipe to feed my coral only tank and its happy and healthy. In my reef tank that has fish in it, I just depend on the food that I put in for the fish to feed the corals and other critters in the tank.
