I just recently purchased a brown carpet anemone. The first day he looked great. He was all open and colorful. The next day I did a routine water change and the anemone closed up and shrunk. He looked kind of like a dead bod on the bottom of my tank! Later that day he began to open up again and started to move toward a powerhead. In the morning I found him upside down on the intake of the powerhead again in the same position that he was in when I did the water change. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Could it be my water parameters. My SG is between 1.023 and 1.024, My ammonia is virtually 0, nitrite 0, nitrate about 0.5, temp 78 degrees. Please help me I would like to save this anemone!

A lot of times anemones will move around trying to find a spot they like with a specific current, lighting and a good footing. Put him in a different spot and make sure you get his foot on a rock. If he doesnt like this spot he will move again. Also how mature is your tank and what lighting, filtration, ect do you have. What is your calcium, alkalinity, and ph at? Also you said your ammonia is virtually 0ppm, does it seem like you have traces of ammonia? I know this is a lot of questions but it is hard to solve your problems without these answers.

I'm new to the hobby and don't have an anenome but I'd say it was looking for more flow if it settled there. When you place it again, put it in more flow, and from what I've read, preferably variable strong flow, they like it more and some say need a variable flow to survive long term.

Hey, Anenomes need a high flow rate. It could also be he couldnt find rock to get his footing. He then dies because of this. Lack of light, nutrients, did anything harass it? Do you have anything aggressive that could have attacked it at night? Just some reasons.

carpet anemone - They will move if they are not happy. My carpet does not like alot of flow.
What is your lighting?
How deep is your sand bed?
My carpet gets an attitude sometimes and pulls himself right into the sand.

My tank ahs four powerheads keeping flow to the tank. It also has four PC lights with two Anctinics and two 10,000Ks. My sandbed is about three inches deep in most areas.

If the mouth inverted, it's pretty much a goner. That sucks. What was your acclimation procedure? Also, your salinity is just a tad low; within the 'safe' range, but I'd bring it up to 1.025 or so.

Sorry to hear it if it's gone. Make sure you get the remains out of the tank, as dead anemones can really foul up a tank.

Also, you don't mention how long your system has been set up and running...?
