Ok I just purchased some of the Com. 1 and 2 Calcium Buffer by ESV and I was reading the recommended dosage. I wanted to know if I double the dosage will anything bad happen to the tank? How/what do you guys use for calcium. I want to get the coraline algae to grow in my tank fast. I have a small amount on my liverock already I just want more.

You need to measure your Alk. and Ca. levels first, then start with the recommended dosage and keep checking your levels and adjust accordingly until you find what your system needs.

Adding too much at once will cause a temporary Ph spike and might cause Ca. to precipitate out of solution. Over time, you also need to monitor your salinity as it will rise with use of any of the 2 part products.

The stuff, works and works well, but like anyting else you need to go slowly.

You can use this calculator to figure out how much you need to add.

When dosing large ammounts you can mix each part seperately with a quart of RO water and drip it in over the course of a day. Just make sure the drip lines are at oppsite ends of the sump so the additives have time to mix with water before coming in contact with each other.
When u run out you can always make your own. Works just as good.

you need to test every 2-3 days when you are starting a new additive.
you should also be testing for magnesium since Ca and dkh and very closely related. never dose with testing!!!

B-ionic is great stuff. I shut down my reactor and went back to using it. Do as the other reefers have stated.

Toe,

You need to make sure you only dose as much as our animals will absorb - if not, your levels will be of and could kill stuff (too high or too low alk will do damage)

Follow the dosing instructions after you have tested and bring your system up to the desired level you want. I keep mine at 11dkh and 480 Ca, but that is just my tank.
