Hi, it looks like I am going to be moving to NYC by the end of December. I was wondering if anyone there or in the area knows of a good LFS that I might be able to call. What I want to do is see if I can strike a deal with them to hold onto my live rock, corals and fish while I buy and set up a new system. I figure I can drive all of this stuff up there overnight from Florida and then drop it off at the LFS where my new tank/stand/canopy will be ready for pickup. Then in a couple of days I will pick up the live rock and then the fish and stuff after that. Anyone know who or where I might call, any reputable LFS's in the NYC or surrounding area that might be up for this? I currently have my 120gal running and I just don't want to part with all of the live rock and critters when I move.

Wow, Matt, good luck - there are a few stores in the area (Se link under NYC STores), but not sure they'll be up for it. We have a system that could hold your stuff, but I am in Westchester county (about 45 minsnorth from NYC) but am not sure thats an option for you or not.

Alot of it will also depend on what kind of fish and corals you have - that would be my guess.

Good luck with it and let me know if we can help'

I hope you have a good move Matthew, and Jim... if he is driving overnight from Fl, I am sure an extra 45 min would be... shall we say ... minor compared to the other 1500 miles he has to drive? :) JMO

WOW! Thanks for all the help and offers!
I'm still kind of in the planning mode so as far as what I need help with is varying daily. In total I have about 160-175lbs of live rock, 100-150lbs of live sand, a blue hippo tang, 2 nemos, 1 TLA, a million hermit crabs and snails, a couple acropora frags, star polyps, xenia, brain coral, assorted zoos, mushrooms, and richordia. I think that I will probably ditch most of the live sand and get new stuff when I move up there, I will keep a little just to use as seed sand, maybe 20lbs. I definetly am going to need storage somewhere for the live rock for just a few days up to a week. As far as the livestock, I'm still debating on what to do with that. The coral I am sure will survive the trip but the fish and the anemone I might sell before I leave. I really like them but I don't want them to die during the trip. I just have more faith in the coral surviving for some reason as long as I can get then into something somewhat established within 24-48hrs. I am also considering trying to sell the whole lot and then starting all over in NYC but I would miss my fish and getting someone to buy everything all at once would probably be hard. When I get closer to moving time then I will really know what is going on, and I will let everyone know and start asking for favors. Thanks everyone for all of your willingness to help. I'll toast to you tonight!

Matt,

Welcome to MR. What part of the city will you being moving to? I would imagine everything would survive as long as you were able to keep the temp up. You may want to look into a power inverter for the car, this way you could run a power head and heater. I would recommend ditching the sand too. If you want to keep some I would say to scoop from only the top layer of the sandbed.
