Thanks for all the support. I feel incompetent!!! My first fish and I am killing it.

Here is toadstool algae.

Toadstool%20Algae.JPG

Wingo, thanks for the offer. If my new algaes do not tempt him, I'll give you a call. They should be here tomorrow.

In the meantime, I stopped cleaning my glass and overflow and I see little kiss marks so I know he is eating something. Looks like diatoms on the overflow.

Still refuses all prepared foods.

P.S. I just spilled the can of algae wafers on the floor - the cat is gobbling them up. The Blenny says "NO". The cat says "YUMMMMM".

Leslie,

My experience with tough to feed fish is that most will acclimate to prepared foods given enough time and natural foods to keep them going. Plan accordingly, if he takes the rock of algae, you may want to grow some in your sump (if its lit) or identify a partner that needs their rocks cleaned on a regular basis. You may also want to try put the prepared food near or on any natural foods that he has shown that he eats.

Have you tried chaeto or caulerpa?

Jack Blenny update:

He is eating diatoms off the overflow. Hopefully that will sustain him until I figure out the alternative. The only other thing that I have seen him eat is Bryopsis which most people do not have.

He still looks skinny but is still energetic. He keeps sitting on the magnafloat and looking at me like he is waiting for me to feed him - but he doesn't eat.

I bought him at New World, and this is not there fault. He was perfectly healthy for a month. I called and they said they feed all their tanks mysis. I tried this and he will not eat it.

I'll update tomorrow after I receive the macro algae buffet :)

Thanks Ezee - I may need to take you up on that.

I have new Blenny symptoms:

This is from my first post
Also, there seems to be a cloudy spot near his tail which I thought he also had when I first got him 1 month ago. After he had been in the tank for a day or so, it went away. His markings do change when he is stressed.

Now, the skin near his tail is peeling the way our sking does after a sunburn. The only disease that I could find with this symptom is clownfish disease. A stupid question, but is it restricted to clownfish or can any fish catch it?

Also, he has been pacing. I didn't realize this was a symptom of disease.

I can go to New World tomorrow and pick up medecine. What does it sound like to you guys, and how would you treat it?

could be tail rot, very possible that it's Brooklynella

Exerpt from here

Although this parasitic scourge similar to others requires a fish host to survive, it is not particular in its quest to find one. Angelfishes, tangs or surgeonfishes, wrasses, jawfishes, and seahorses among others will host Brooklynella

Bummer Leslie - good luck with the treatment

Clown fish diease is not limited to clown fish

I do not believe your blenny has that diease.
If I remembered correctly, you said your fish have this symptoms on his tail for a while. If that is the case, your fish most likely would have been dead by now with clown fish diease. This diease will kill a fish quickly.

But the symptoms your fish is experiencing seems severe and thus I suggest you ask to an experience fish guy to look at your fish ASAP.

BTW did you say all the water pars up to standard?

Leslie,

Amazingly, I agree with Wingo. Typically Brooklynella kills in 24-48 hours after symptoms are spotted, however it still may be Brook. If it is Brook, Formulin is the only med that is really recommended from the material I have read and it is considered extremely contagious. I lost a clown in a single night from this and previously he looked healthy.

There are several other possibilities. Your fish may have some other parasite, in that case you may want to try Malachite Green. You will know in the morning. If you fish is on his way out, it probably is Brooklynella.

Either way, I would wait a couple of weeks before adding anything else to the tank.

You can read more here http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/fish_diseases/skin_disorders.html.

Blenny continues to eat diatoms off the glass and overflow. He seems more relaxed, but someday I would like clean glass :). I gave him the lettuce algae and the toadstool today. So far, he has ignored them, but they look very appetizing so maybe....

Also, went to New World and they suggested that I dose him with Melafix. I didn't realize that it would make the skimmer go crazy! You can guess what happened....About 4 gallons of water on the floor - OOPS!!! Note to self - turn skimmer off whenever adding something to tank.

LOL

Nice side effect is that the melafix seems to be killing the cyano bacteria!

Good to hear. I hope it works for you.

BTW, I know LMB's are great grazers, but mine eats Marine One pellets and a whole host of frozen foods. LMK if you want to see a vid of him eating. :tongue1:

Are you taunting me?

Last night he did take one bite of the frozen food. Hopefully, he will start eating it.

I think he was sick more than starving from lack of food. I have been using the Melafix, and his tail is looking better and he is much calmer and more sociable.

Because of the Melafix, I have barely been using the skimmer. Also, I have been feeding the tank. This has led to some diatoms growing on the overflow. He likes that and has been eating them. I think he ate a little of the sea lettuce that I put in the tank as well. I didn't see him do it, but his poop was neon green :)

He is still skinny, but he no longer looks like he is about to die. The Melafix treatment ends on Tuesday, and I can go back to skimming. I will keep an eye on him to make sure he is still finding food to eat.

As soon as he is fat again, I will post pics!

Thanks for everyone's help. :) I was really scared!!! :-( If Jack Blenny had died, I don't think I could have bought anymore fish!
