If you want to prevent the real ulgy stage. It's best to leave the lights off for at least 4 weeks. Add Copepods so you get ahead of algae stages. You will still go through it. But your be in better control. New tank will take sometime to mature. Just be patient. If you want you to go add the lights start with a few hours and than slowly work your way to 8-9 hours

Agreed, I would cycle the tank with the lights off until your ready to add corals.
