what you will learn in a class are the fundamentals and then they will recommend another class. The way I see it, a class is a great thing however most of the things learned in a class can be done on your own. Learning aperture, shutters, focal length and so on. Your camera should have several features on it to help you take pictures. And with these features most people just shoot and never really learn the basics. However these same features can help explain why you can take a photo of sports or portraits or even closeups.
I'll start off by saying that there are a few sites that will explain basic photography however sometimes a little extra is needed to understand certain things. you posted your daughter as a photo opportunity, lets look at that first.
If you have a kid like the "crumb snatcher" I have a home, You probably wanted to get a camera that would capture those rare and comical moments that make parenting a trail. Now that being the case, most kids couldn't stand still if you put them in a straight jacket with chains (now put the phone down, I haven't done this, but if I did he'd get out anyway). So a camera capable of photographing these instances is a godsend. Simply find the shutter priority on your camera and set it to this or find the sports logo and set it to that. what these do are basically the same, they pick a higher shutter speed (faster) to allow you to slow down / freeze the moment when you depress the button the camera. Now you have that priceless moment when your kid decides to lick that lemon wedge and the facial expression is the funniest thing you will ever see. or if you have one like mine, he/she will simply extend their tiny sticky hands and ask for another.
PM me with any questions you have after and we can continue. Hopefully you can take better pics than jeremy.......LOL
