Thanks again everyone. Answers: I am using a tripod, without that there's no way to do extreme closeups. I shot only on manual mode with manual focus and try to keep aperture as small as I can, f/22 minimum. You need an external flash for that. I also experiment with lighting the subject with using color swaps to block some wavelenghts. Making pictures of fish is more difficult, timing is everything. For that I use a remote control.
Alex, I haven't tried the 60mm Tamron, but if you want to buy a macro lens, the longer the focal length, the better (and more $$$ unfortunately). Reason is that for example with 90mm macro you have a greater working distance than with 60mm, it is with 60mm you need to be closer to the subject to focus. There's one thing I like about 60mm though, it has internal focus.
