Early xmas present

Happy Holidays everyone!!. Treated myself to a new camera. Chose a Nikon D5000 with a nikor 85mm macro lens. Being totally clueless about photography, i figured it would take a while to get a few decent pics. Got pretty frustrated right away.... could get better shots with the old point and shoot. Stumbled on the "scene" setting on the mode dial and set it to low key or silouette and got a few decent ones. I have been using a tripod and have shot through the glass at this point. Top downs aint so good so far. Enjoy them and any tips will be appreciated. Mike

Looking good Mike, just picked up the D3100 myself. Tough shooting under Radiums.

Try the tripod with the timer. Set the timer and step away. Turn off autofocus and focus it manually. Then hit the button and step away and let the timer and the camera do all the work.

With corals like those it was pretty hard for me to see anything wrong with the pix.

Do yourself a favor lol don't compare your pix with the likes of m'akoys, moidols, and a few others.LOL You'll only hate yours. Your pix are quite nice, especially since you just got the cam.
