Well I have 3 mini colonies and 1 big one. all under diff levels of light these are at the darkest point of my tank and seem to be doing the best.

okay, that's a great observation, I've noticed a lot of Space Monsters including my own that lose the black speckling. How are your other mini Space Monster colonies looking?

Yeah if u keep them on high light or direct light they will def lose the black spec. But they will gain it back in about a 2-3 months if moved to lower shaded areas...
