the dynamic and saturation is what I like about HDR. Most of my HDR images are created from single Raw to pseudo with photomatix then use photoshop to created as many version as I like. some looks nice over saturate some look nice in B/W depends....

here's another 2 I play with today enjoy.....

I never until this thread heard of HDR photos- although Ive probably seen em and never realized- what I like about em is they actually look like paintings to me or the old pictures that were for sale on NYC streets of the diner scene as well as others. Pretty cool.

Aren't using photomatix and PS cheating? The art of creating an HDR is in being able to set up the perfect shot a number of times and not create and ghosting affect.

How do you tone map an image without some sort of post image processing software? I've seen some of the newer cameras with built-in HDR capabilities, but never used them myself.

Is painting in Corel Painter cheating because it simulates brush-strokes for you, and the art of painting is being able to master your brush work and texture...? You're not exactly wrong, but my experience with digital art has sometimes been about finding ways to simulate the look and feel of conventional methods through easier and more reproducible steps.

Using PS and Photomatrix in combination to simulate the effects of HDR photography is just another way to arrive at the same visual effect ::shrug::
