Just came back from the Atlanta Aquarium earlier today. What an amazing aquarium to visit, being it's the world's biggest aquarium; about 8 million gallons. Wife did the swim with the gentle giants, Whale Shark, in their 6.3 million gallon tank - she had a helluva time! Definitely recommended if you happen to be visiting Atlanta. Here's a few pics of my trip... more to come after processing. Hope you like the pictures...
Sorry for the poor quality. Just showing the size of this tank, I believe it's 27 feet tall. Whale shark in the background.
Tank is constructed with 2 feet thick acrylic.
Fully equipped surgical department. Got to see the operations in the background in the behind the scene tour.
Commissary where all the food is prepped.
Top down shot of whale shark. There's 4 total; 2 male and 2 female. Flown in by UPS from Taiwan.
One of many Touch 'n Learn pools.
Random shot of pumps and filtration systems.
This is the flow and aeration system for the coral tank. Every 2 minutes, 4 of these reservoirs dumps "crapton" of water into the tank causing some nice size waves.
Piranha.
Few more shots of a whale shark. Majestic.
What's those white bags? 2000lbs of Instant Ocean. Took them 36 hours to fill the tank with 6.3 million gallons.
Lagoon area where juveniles are kept until they're ready to be placed into the display tanks.
Another shot of filtration system.
Room above the 6.3 million gallon tank. I had 4 shots taken, but was only able to stitch 2 of them. The size of this tank is phenomenal, they have 2 kodiaks rafts just to get around for feeding.
