Just came back from the Atlanta Aquarium earlier today. What an amazing aquarium to visit, being it's the world's biggest aquarium; about 8 million gallons. Wife did the swim with the gentle giants, Whale Shark, in their 6.3 million gallon tank - she had a helluva time! Definitely recommended if you happen to be visiting Atlanta. Here's a few pics of my trip... more to come after processing. Hope you like the pictures...

Sorry for the poor quality. Just showing the size of this tank, I believe it's 27 feet tall. Whale shark in the background.

Tank is constructed with 2 feet thick acrylic.

Fully equipped surgical department. Got to see the operations in the background in the behind the scene tour.

Commissary where all the food is prepped.

Top down shot of whale shark. There's 4 total; 2 male and 2 female. Flown in by UPS from Taiwan.

One of many Touch 'n Learn pools.

Random shot of pumps and filtration systems.
AtlantaAquarium-12.jpg

This is the flow and aeration system for the coral tank. Every 2 minutes, 4 of these reservoirs dumps "crapton" of water into the tank causing some nice size waves.

Piranha.

Few more shots of a whale shark. Majestic.

What's those white bags? 2000lbs of Instant Ocean. Took them 36 hours to fill the tank with 6.3 million gallons.
AtlantaAquarium-17.jpg

Lagoon area where juveniles are kept until they're ready to be placed into the display tanks.
AtlantaAquarium-18.jpg

Another shot of filtration system.

Room above the 6.3 million gallon tank. I had 4 shots taken, but was only able to stitch 2 of them. The size of this tank is phenomenal, they have 2 kodiaks rafts just to get around for feeding.

Thanks! I'll try to process a few more... but nothing you folks haven't seen already.

Your pics are amazing, you really liked those whale sharks eh? lol :)

Assuming that is your wife on the other side of the 'glass'? Lucky her!!!

LOL! Thanks Kathy. No, diver is a staff of the aquarium. They have a dive program as well, but require the customer to be a certified diver. My wife just did the swim on the surface. Hehe.. the whale sharks is the highlight of the aquarium, I gotta plug them whenever possible :lol2:

Very nice pics!

Thanks! I need some lessons from my mentor - Mo~idol  Yoohooo, where are you, Steve?

Drive? Eeep... My parents drives to Savannah,GA quite often, and it takes them around 17 hours from Queens. I flew into New Orleans for the weekend, and took a flight to Atlanta on Tuesday. I'm allergic to scenery of cows and water towers. :lol2:

Not back yet! Still chilling in the hotel in Atlanta...

Yes, all handheld. Was nice because the swim took place after the aquarium shut down... so I was able to wander around when the aquarium was closed to the public.

hey widdy how long ago did your wife had to sign up for the swim with the whale sharks i want to plan a trip this summer but i dont know a date n i want to know how much in advance did she set her swim

Hi - we booked it towards the end of March for today's swim. They said they max out the swim at 10 people, and only 7 people went today. I think a month is a good amount of time to book in advance. Should your timing not work out, you can reschedule if given more than 48 hours of notice with a $50 change fee.
