Snorkeling In Cozumel

My girlfriend and I just got back from a week in Cozumel. She doesn't dive so we did some snorkeling. During one of the snorkeling trips we got to play with an underwater camera, and this is what we came up with.

Nice, I am going to maya riviera next month, and I usually take a snorkel trip to puerto morelos every year. I am considering trying a spot in cozumel. I am into the reef and coral more so than the fish and puerto morelos is excellent. In you video there is not to much in the way of coral reef. Is there any place you can recommend snorkeling in cozumel that has a great coral reef.

most of the reefs got pretty clobbered by wilma, but towards the south of the island there are some deeper walls (90 feet or so) that have some nice corals. if you are into seafans, gorgonians, tunicates, etc, there are lots of shallower dive spots that will give you more bottom time.

As for the video, it wasn't my camera so i only got to play with it for a bit, but there were some nice corals in the area, i just didnt get to film them.

finally, if you want to see crazy corals the Caribbean really isnt that great. The red sea and the pacific are much nicer.

I snorkeled in Cozumel. There were some great fish including a giant sea turtle however, almost no coral thus no color.

we did this one while in riviera maya.

it's a total of 3 snorkel spots.

First you go to a shallow reef for a while, then they take you to a deeper spot to see big fish. After that they bring you back for lunch on the beach. Great authentic mexican food, tequila, and cerveza included.

After lunch they take you back out to another shallow reef spot. We had a great time. They pick you up from the resort and bring you back. Make sure you get approved biodegradeable sunblock. The reef protected and only sunblocks w/ that say biodegradeable on the bottle are legal.

We made our reservation from one of the guys in the resort lobby. IT was my favorite part of the vacation.

i would listen to wes. i didnt dive on the mainland only off the island, but from what i hear there are some nice spots around playa del carmen, but the reefs around cancun arent so great. this is all second hand, as again i didnt do it myself.

the big plus for diving off cozumel is you can just rent a scooter and cruise around to the different reefs yourself. most are close enough to get to from shore, just dont get clobbered by a diveboat on your way out.

the fish were fine, nearly getting chomped by that f**king eel was a different story.
