You are correct Nelson, the fish is a male and the long ray on the dorsal fin is how you tell. On a female the doral fin is rounded in appearance.
This only applies to mature Manderins, when they are young it is difficult to tell.

Cute fish..why not get him a female..they are awesome to watch swim around the tank together
