Looks like a major algae problem going on.

Anyhow, as to photography..

1. Most seem rather blury. If you are shooting in auto-mode and don't have enough light to properly expose a picture your shutter speed might be too slow and your hand shake causes the blurines. If you are photographing non moving subjects, get a tripod and set your camera to timer or use a remote.

2. You need to increase the light over your tank or shoot with a flash at an agle or better yet use a dedicated flash off the hot shoe.
