I am still messing around with the setting on the D40 with the kit lens. Saving up some cash for the sigma 150mm macro lens.
Anyone using a D40 what setting are you using for closeups?....can't even call it a macro with the kit lens :)

Here are 2 new frags I got yesterday. How is the photo quality? Any suggestions?
The blue one is a abrolhensis stag. I've been trying to get this coral for 3 years. It really is an incredible coral when it grows big. The little orange one is a monti setosa.

Thanks Chong.

Carlo, of course I don't mind. Nice frag. I got the frag from a friend who has a 5" colony of it. It looks just like a bigger version of your frag...lol

Nice pics. Loving the abrolhensis stag. let me know when you're ready to frag that in a year or so :lol2: I use a D40 with kit lens, I have to say the best way to get a closeup is to have your lens on manual and your settings too...then take the pic on medium or so. Also it's best if you have a tripod so it won't come out blurry if you every try it.

Hey saltyflip. I did use a tripod and manual setting for that photo.

I set the shutter speed @ 40, aperature @ 11, iso 400. The photo came out a little dark so I adjusted the exposure in photoshop. What setting do you use for your macro shots?

I wouldn't call mine macro...it's more of closeup. If you browse under photography I have a thread there titled "ok, ok....more pics" My settings for my D40 were...
Mode=M
Shutter Speed = 50-80 depending on which one I was taking
Aperature = 5.6
iso= 800
flash = No
White balance=auto
Zoom and focus = Manual
btw...they were taken under PC 50/50 lights if that helps. Play with it a little. I'm also thinking of getting the same Macro lenses as you're planning. I just need to starve for while to get my budget in par :lol2:

hahaha same here...but I think I need to really get my clock straight. BTW...my lens was almost touching the glass. But then again, I have a 12 gallon while you have a bigger one so your corals are probably more "inside" than mine. Anyway I'll keep checkin' this thread to see if you've upload any more pics. Let me know how those settings work for you.

yes, i'm still waiting for a pic of that "Bright turquoise and blue tip acroporas as usual no brownies" :)

Here is a pic from last week. The stag really had nice color when I got it. I browned it out a little with a pro cure dip but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Acro flatworms are so prevalent in this hobby it is ridiculous. It has gotten to the point that just about everyone in the SPS game has come across them, had them, or have them.
