Who has the best prices? I see 2 lens bundles on ebay for $500 including the 55-200mm macro lens. Is that a good price? That would cost $750 from best buy.

I would check out this place.
http://stores.ebay.com/ShopSunshine
The storefront is actually located in Brooklyn. Before I bought my Canon 30D, I was constantly checking prices from local stores (best buy, circuit city, etc) and online places. Best I could do was about $900 for the body and 2 lenses at the time. I found and checked out this ebay store and actually took a ride into Brooklyn. They had no problem matching the ebay price at the store. The package cost me around $1000 and came with 4 lenses (2 zoom lenses, a macro lense, wide angle lense, and all made by Canon), two 4GB mem cards, tripod, hard carrying case, a soft backpack style carrying case, flash, extra battery, lens cleaning kit, lens filter kit, and a few other things. When I got home, I called Canon with the S/N to make sure it was new and not refurbished, and they assured me it was. Needless to say, there is no way any other store would have came close to the price for that amount of stuff. Like you said, just the camera body and 2 lenses costs more then that. Hope this helps, good luck!

I found that B&H has the best everyday prices, you usually can't beat them unless you find some place having a sale. If you ship out of state you can avoid sales tax.

Thanks for the replies guys. Really a big help!
I noticed on most of the buyer reviews a Vibration Reduction 55-200mm lens is suggested. These packages don't offer a VR lens (I don't even see them F/S). Is this a must have for this camera?

yes, IMO VR is definitely worth the premium. if you feel like you may upgrade down the road, there is the 15-200mm VR that is a badass all-in-one lens. (not for macro though). it runs about $750 i think and you can buy just the d40 body since you won't need the kit lens anymore. there are 3rd party lenses that are probably very good at a fraction of the price but you'll never lose much money on a good lens if you decide to sell it.

read up on kenrockwell.com great d40 info there
