some new fish pictures

recently I added a few serranus species basses to my tank.

This is an Serranus Annularis (Orange back bass). i added two of these.

the other bass I added is another serranus sp. I was told it was not yet fully named. An awesome fish as you can see from the colors and patterns.

The max size is between 3-4", but I doubt they will get that big in aquariums. They are about 2-2.5" right now.

I don't know if the annularis i have are M/F. I just like to add multiples of fish if I can in the hopes that they will form a pair. Not even sure if these fish are sequential hermaphrodites. So far the 2 have not killed each other, so there is hope that they could become a pair.

As for the shape of the pupil.. I have have no idea why its shaped like it is.

They dont get very big. The serranus annularis has a max size of about 3". So should be fine in a 40G.

I think some of the basses, like the chalk bass are often overlooked as reef fish. They are small and relatively cheap, and pretty.

Some of the basses are really cool looking fish. I have no idea about the pupils either, but if it helps at all most of the pseudos, bass, and groupers have that tear drop shape to their pupils.
