Well i got my new Macro Lens yesterday (but I can't use it yet, damn Xmas present). I got the Canon 100mm f2.8. I did play with it at work, since i have a canon xt at work, just like my home camera.

It take some really nice shot. I am a little cumbersome with it though. I guess i have to learn how to shoot with a Macro lens. The lens kept focusing all the way in and then all the way out. I would have to physically move the camera in and out for it to get into AF range. But even then i could not get it go get to Exactly 1:1.

I looked online but could not find any info on how to use it. Canon's site is useless.

Anyone have any tips for me??

Thanks
Anthony

check on the lens, is there a button that says full or limit?

you also have to be the correct distance from the subject.

focus a little bit less than the full range then move in, when the image goes out of focus you know you've gone too far.

Ok so i will actually have to move the camera back and forth, until i am the correct distance?? I get it... I think that there is some sort of switch on the lens, i remember reading about it. What does it do? FULL or LIMIT?

the full/limit switch restricts the focus range, I never found out why it's there, I guess I should some day.

yes with a fixed lens like the 100mm you have, you become the "zoom" ;)
you have to move back and forth with the camera.

The full/limit switch tells the camera what area it should "Look" for the thing you want to focus on. So when you are less than X it should look in this range, greater than X it should look in that range. It helps the camera decide if it should be lookig for something at the min focus distance (limit) or 14" away (full). Your switch should be labeled with something like "Limit / Full (.5m-Infinity)". In that example anything less than .5m you would use "Limit" and anything further than that you would use "Full". You will only get the 1:1 reproduction at the min focus distance.
