Congrats A.....my clowns not only host in my wall hammer, they breed every 11 days there. Clowns seek a smooth surface to lay and incubate their eggs. Originally they hosted in my torch (branching). Obviously no way to procreate there. They went searching and eventually found the wall hammer. They spent about two or three weeks rubbing their bodies on a section of it. At the time I thought maybe they had parasites and were scratching themselves. Apparently they were preparing a nesting site. Needless to say, one day I saw a clutch of eggs on the hammer. That was over two years ago. The eggs hatch in nine days and then they lay a new clutch two days later.

Good luck with your pair and your hammer Arkady. They can irritate corals but I've had success with the wall hammer.

Thanks for the words of caution - I think this wall hammer will survive the clowns - and it would be incredibly cool if they started spawning.

The hammer is everything I wanted as far as corals for the tank go! (thank you, HOF)

Now I do have to take a breather in terms of live stock until the new year.

Zuska, the clowns were in my tank for about 5 months, and the hammer for about 2 months before they found each other. It should be noted, though, that the hammer was 'moved' twice (by a rather pushy tuxedo urchin) before I found a 'sweet spot' for it - that apparently also appealed to the clowns.
