(I took this photo yesterday. As of this morning, this little guy is missing, presumed dead. RIP Goldie - you were a good fish.)

lissa mine also hides in a rock hole, yours might have found a new spot. if there is no body around the tank, then don't give up hope.

Aw, thanks, but he didn't come out at all to feed this morning which is EXTREMELY unusual. He's always been a super active feeder - comes right to the top of the tank and gobbles up everything he can. I also noticed yesterday that he was gravitating to that spot which happens to be RIGHT under a powerhead - as if he liked the heavy current pushing right down on him. I was actually wondering if that might be symptomatic of something wrong.

One of the reasons this hobby sucks so much sometimes is because things in our tanks die inexplicably. :(

Last week I lifted the carcass of my purple reef lobster out of the tank with my 5 year old watching. I knew that he hadn't molted because the whole shell was intact with what looked like the remains picked flesh inside the carapace.

I told my wife. We went out & bought a couple of small fish now that he was gone (it was kind of a relief because whenever we'd toss in a new fish he'd dart for the lobster's hole in danger of being caught).

A week later I'm feeding my corals brine & who comes out from under a rock??? That's right.

Point? It ain't over 'till it's over. If you don't have anything in the tank that could polish him off in one night & you don't find remains, I'd bet he's still alive.
